Team History
The NBA basketball team, the Washington Wizards, was originally formed in 1961. However, the basketball franchise was first established as The Chicago Packers. A year later the team's name changed to the Zephyrs, and then in 1963, the team moved to Baltimore and became the Baltimore Bullets. Finally, on May 15, 1997, the team officially became The Washington Wizards. In January 2000, Michael Jordan became the team's president of basketball operations. Then in 2001, he came out of retirement to play for The Wizards. Shortly after, majority owner Abe Pollin fired and replaced Jordan. Eddie Jordan and Ernie Grunfeld became the new team managers for the Wizards.


As of 2012, the coach is Randy Wittman and the owner is Ted Leonsis. The team's classic colors are red, white, navy, and silver, as is displayed in team merchandise. The official mascots are G-Man and G-Wiz. Currently, the Wizards' home court is at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Throughout the years, the Wizards have had many players inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. The list includes Wes Unseld, Elvin Hayes, Dave Bing, Earl Monroe, Walt Bellamy, Bailey Howell, Moses Malone, Michael Jordan, and Gus Johnson. The team won one championship in 1978 and holds four conference titles.
